    A colorful swirl of dancers in a rainbow of colored dresses, and festive Mexican music filled the gym for a Cinco de Mayo celebration at Dupont Elementary School this week.

     Third grade reading CSAP scores for Adams County School District 14 have been released by the Colorado Department of Education. Two of the seven schools taking the English language test showed improvement over last year, while five showed a decline (see attached table). Students at Alsup Elementary did not make overall gains, but they did maintain extraordinarily high performance of 86% proficiency. Rose Hill Elementary students achieved record levels of performance in their tests, improving to 58% proficiency. The third grade reading scores are the first published scores out of 29 CSAP scores to be released this year. The remaining scores for all grade levels will be released in mid-July.

    Adams County, Commerce City and Allied Waste Services will provide a free trash disposal day for all Adams County residents on Saturday, May 10, 2008, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tower Road Landfill. The landfill is located at 88th Avenue and Tower Road.

    Keeping in line with state programs, the city has drafted a wildlife management plan and is seeking public input. The plan builds on programs and regulations of the Colorado Division of Wildlife, and provides a framework for the humane management of wildlife within Commerce City.
